Hanson Conservation Commission Issues Pool Compliance After Unpermitted Buffer Encroachment

HANSON — November 5, 2025 — Hanson Conservation Commission issues compliance certificate after lakeside pool built too large. The commission voted 4-0 at its November 5 meeting to grant a certificate of compliance for 370 Indian Head Street after owner Jacqueline Calamito expanded a pool and concrete patio roughly 173 square feet into a protected 50-foot wetlands buffer without commission approval, after reportedly receiving verbal authorization from the building commissioner. Representative Kenneth Thompson presented a native-planting mitigation plan of nearly 200 square feet — two flowering dogwoods and four shadbush shrubs near the lake's tree line — which the commission accepted as a condition of the certificate. The board also authorized up to $200 for a donor recognition plaque for Phil Clemens, approved renewing an American Chestnut Foundation membership, and reviewed a level-funded FY2026 budget due December 4 that includes a $100,000 capital request for Factory Pond dam repairs in fiscal year 2027.
