Hanson Swears In New Police Chief, Honors Two Police Retirees

HANSON — July 8, 2025 — Hanson swears in Michael Casey as police chief and bids farewell to two veterans at the July 8 Select Board meeting. The board administered the oath of office to Casey, who joined the Hanson Police Department as an auxiliary officer 30 years ago and was unanimously appointed to the post effective July 1, 2025. The board also presented official citations to outgoing Chief Michael Mix, recognized for nearly 30 years in law enforcement including 12 as chief, and to Officer Michelle Hughes, the department's first female officer, who retired after 32 years. Town Administrator Lisa Green reported that the town's insurance premiums have risen only $15,000 over four years, saving approximately $65,000 compared to prior rates, and flagged a one-week delay in the senior center building expansion, now set for installation beginning July 19. The board voted unanimously to transfer $18,500 within the Board of Health budget to cover higher-than-anticipated disposal costs, open the October 6 Special Town Meeting warrant, and authorize execution of the ROCCC intermunicipal agreement for regional 911 services, noting that a state grant that had previously offset costs is no longer available.
