Hanson Select Board rejects a tax interest write-off plan, backs $112,000 for a cracked library parking lot.
Select Board · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Hanson Select Board rejects a tax interest write-off plan, backs $112,000 for a cracked library parking lot. The board voted unanimously not to recommend Treasurer/Collector Lisa Clark's Article 28, which would have let the town waive interest on delinquent residential and commercial tax accounts; Town Accountant Eric Kinsherf called it unsound fiscal policy, and the state's own interest rate on payment plans already dropped from 16 percent to 8 percent. Members separately voted 5-0 to recommend $112,000 to repave the library and senior center parking lot, where "we have actually seen people fall," and $27,500 for Conservation Commission pond and trail work.
Kinsherf projected about $1,265,000 in year-end free cash if all warrant articles pass, or roughly $1.4 million if the discretionary items are set aside. The board also spent nearly an hour split over Police Chief Mike Casey's Flock license-plate cameras, with one member invoking Benjamin Franklin on liberty and another calling the privacy fears "so little" against everyday phone tracking, but took no vote.
