Select Board · Meeting of September 1, 2026

Hanson Select Board adds inspector jobs to payroll, shapes October warrant. The board unanimously added alternate wiring, gas, plumbing and building commissioner positions to the wage bylaw after insurance-law changes left uncovered inspectors personally liable, one staff member noting officials "did have two of them say, I'm not doing this unless you put me on under the town." Highway Director Richard Jasmine requested $96,800 for a new utility truck and $55,000 for an asphalt hot box, both citing safety concerns on aging equipment. The board awarded a three-year Camp Kiwanis bartending contract to Professional Bartending Services, which offered 40 percent of gross sales versus a competing 5 percent bid, and voted to discharge a decades-old mortgage at 533 Main Street.

Anticipated free cash sits near $2 million, down from about $3 million last year, after $1.9 million was already used to balance the FY27 budget. The board also debated an October 1 capital-cost notification deadline proposed in the revised Whitman-Hanson Regional Agreement.
