Hanson Select Board places warrant, adopts revised $3 million override ballot language

HANSON — April 8, 2025 — Hanson Select Board places full annual and special town meeting warrants and revises $3 million override ballot question. At its April 8 meeting, the board adopted new ballot language clarifying that the proposed $3 million real estate and personal property tax override covers operating costs for the schools, police department, fire department, and other town departments beginning July 1, 2025 — replacing earlier wording that officials said gave the false impression the measure applied only to schools. The board voted to support reserving 3.2 acres of the former McQuan school property for a potential future library project, created a short-term Library Design and Planning Committee, and added a library building committee article to the annual warrant. Town Administrator Lisa Green announced a $89,500 Green Communities grant application submitted for police station weatherization and heat pump upgrades, and confirmed 328 electronic budget surveys have been received through Bridgewater State University. The board also struck a conservation article that would have placed a McQuan Street parcel under Article 97 protection after the highway director said the land is needed for an active road design project, and set three public override information forums for April 22, April 24, and April 30.
