Hanson Board of Health Approves Three Septic Plans, Advances Transfer Station Rebid

HANSON — August 12, 2025 — Hanson Board of Health approves three septic upgrades and moves to rebid its transfer station contract after learning the town pays the highest trash-hauling rate among 18 South Shore communities. The board voted unanimously to approve septic system plans for 102 Leon Court, 89 Holly Ridge Drive, and 190 Home Street, and also approved an irrigation well permit for 82 Tavern Way in a 2-0 vote with Chair Kevin recused. Arlene reported Hanson pays approximately $106 to $107 per ton for hauling — compared to roughly $80 for the next-closest community in the South Shore Recycling Partnership — with a bid submission deadline set for September 12 and contract award targeted for September 19. Town Planner Tony DePrizio presented updated language for General Bylaw Article 3-22, the board's illicit discharge stormwater bylaw, which the board unanimously recommended for the October town meeting to meet federal MS4 permit requirements. The board also conducted a formal performance review of Health Agent Gil Amado, citing food inspection backlogs — including a two-year gap at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School — inconsistent agent reporting, and Amado's acknowledgment that he has never issued a citation or fine; the board scheduled a follow-up review for November.
