Planning Board · Meeting of September 14, 2026

Hanson Planning Board sends ADU and clean-energy permitting bylaws to town meeting. The board voted unanimously to forward a revised accessory dwelling unit bylaw, capping protected-use units at 900 square feet and barring ADUs from being sold, mortgaged or condominiumized separately from the main house, filed as Article 30. Members also advanced Article 29, adopting a consolidated local permit for small clean energy projects under state regulation 225 CMR 29.00, with the town's planner and director of land use named as lead liaison alongside the building commissioner.

"The downside of that is, it's always turning over, and you'll never have a full-time tenant," the planner said, explaining the bylaw's new restriction on short-term ADU rentals. The board separately heard that a $25,500 consultant request to update the town's 2012 subdivision control law is headed to the October warrant, and that a $109,000 Community Preservation Committee-funded relocation of the Maquan playground is targeting a spring 2027 groundbreaking.
